I'm so excited to be jumping back into this journey! I am Brigette, also known as the Weird Bug Lady. I first started my Etsy shop back in 2007, when I was in college studying zoology. Using my grandmother's sewing machine I started making fun plushies based on the things I was learning about - mosquito larvae and trilobites and all sorts of fantastic creatures. I did craft fairs, art shows, and dabbled in other arts/crafts along the way. Once I got to grad school for my PhD, and then into the working world as a science teacher, my crafting had to take a back seat. I've opened/closed my shop a few times over the years. But now I'm ready to embrace the challenge again. I got my PhD in ecology and evolutionary biology (studying caterpillars), and I'm now a science teacher at a middle school for gifted children. I LOVE what I do, and I LOVE sharing my passion for the creepy crawly creatures of the world with others.

For my Etsy shop, I am planning a grand re-opening on March 1st. I will have my classic plushies PLUS punch needle creations, punch needle patterns, punch needle kits, and plushie sewing patterns. I will take custom orders on a limited basis.

For my TeachersPayTeachers shop, I have a few insect themed items for sale. I will continue to add educational materials as I create more.

My goal is to use this blog to provide crafting resources, share science content, and help people embrace the "weird" parts of themselves and others.
